What Antigravity 2.0 is
At I/O 2026 (05-19), Google rebuilt Antigravity from 'a VS Code fork AI IDE' into a full agent platform: a standalone desktop app (no longer a fork), the agy command-line tool, a developer SDK, managed agents inside the Gemini API, and an enterprise Agent Platform. The positioning shifted from 'helps you write code' to 'you manage agents, agents do the work.'
Reception after launch
Gemini CLI was shut down on 06-18 and users were pushed to agy — a forced migration that generated a wave of reactive searches. Community complaints cluster around: no plan mode, no built-in terminal in the desktop app, confusing model selection in multi-folder setups, and tight quotas during launch week. The free tier exposing the full model list was a praised point.
