GLM-5.3 or 5.2
Same base. Not the same endpoint

Z.ai announced 5.3 on 14 Aug 2026: same base as 5.2, every gain from post-training. 5.2 is on QCode (glm-5.2). 5.3 is not (no glm-5.3). This page is not “switch both on the same endpoint.” For the Zhipu line today, use 5.2. For 5.3, use Coding Plan / OpenCode channels.

Stock first, then the story

Same base

No new pretrain

Official opening line: Scaling post-training is all we did. The ~744B / 40B-active shape is still the 5.2 community figure, not a new 5.3 size card.

glm-5.2

On QCode

Shipped Jun 2026, MIT weights, 1M context. /models lists glm-5.2. That is the SKU you can order today.

No glm-5.3

Not in the catalog

QCode /models does not list glm-5.3. Do not read this page as “5.3 is callable here.”

low / high / max

5.3 thinking

Official integration note: thinking cannot be disabled. reasoning_effort is low / high / max, default max. Use max for coding. Old requests that still send disabled will fail.

What 5.3 changed versus 5.2

Not a new base. Officially the jump is more environments, more tasks, and more compute on post-training. The post stresses harder coding, long-horizon work and cyber. Vendor rows versus 5.2 include Terminal Bench 3.0 at 28.3 vs 4.6, DeepSWE v1.1 at 66.9 vs 46.2, and a claimed 50% lift on their Code Bench. Those are Z.ai’s numbers, not an independent rank.

Channels, not our shelf

5.3 landed on GLM Coding Plan on day one. Standalone API is officially “coming soon.” Full weights in about two weeks after safety work — this page does not claim they are downloadable now. OpenCode wrote that Go has 5.3 at the same price as 5.2: that is OpenCode’s channel, not a Z.ai public tariff, and not a QCode price.

Timeline

Jun 2026

GLM-5.2 ships: MIT weights, ~744B / 40B active (prior page / community), 1M context. Now listed on QCode.

14 Aug 2026

z.ai/blog/glm-5.3. Coding Plan that day. OpenCode Go claims the same-day listing.

~two weeks later

Official promise: weights after safety review. Standalone API still coming soon. QCode still has no glm-5.3.

Confirmed vs do not write “in stock”

Confirmed

5.3 blog dated 14 Aug 2026; same base as 5.2; Coding Plan day one; API coming soon; weights ~two weeks; thinking low / high / max. 5.2 is on QCode. 5.3 is not.

Do not write “in stock”

Do not say “switch both on the same endpoint.” Do not treat OpenCode’s “same price as 5.2” as a Z.ai tariff. “Weights in two weeks” is not a download today. Vendor Code Bench / DeepSWE jumps are not an independent rank.

Use 5.2 today, or a 5.3 channel

Use 5.2 today

You need MIT weights, a public API, and a Zhipu line you can order on QCode now. The id is glm-5.2.

Wait / use a 5.3 channel

You already sit on Z.ai Coding Plan or OpenCode Go and can live with a staggered API and weights. Do not expect glm-5.3 on this catalog today.

Two paths. Do not merge them

5.2: QCode or Z.ai’s public API, model=glm-5.2. 5.3: official path is Coding Plan; OpenCode Go is another channel. The standalone API id is previewed as glm-5.3; price and GA are not locked on Z.ai’s public tariff. Weights wait for a Hugging Face card. Full write-up: /glm-5-3-guide.

On QCode

/models lists glm-5.2 and does not list glm-5.3. This page does not claim 5.3 is callable here, and it does not say you can switch both on the same endpoint. For the Zhipu line today, use 5.2. Until 5.3 appears on the live list, that list is the truth.

5.3 vs 5.2 FAQ

Is 5.3 just a bigger 5.2?

Officially the same base, no new pretrain. The jump is post-training. Size figures are still the 5.2 community shape, not a new 5.3 model card.

Can I call 5.3 on QCode now?

No. The catalog has no glm-5.3. What you can call is glm-5.2.

Can I switch both on the same endpoint?

Do not take that sentence as a promise that 5.3 is callable. 5.2 is on QCode. 5.3 is not. Switching only becomes true after 5.3 is actually listed.

Are 5.3 weights out?

Not yet. Official wording: about two weeks, after safety review. This page does not claim they have shipped.

What does 5.3 cost?

Z.ai’s public tariff still ends at 5.2. OpenCode’s “same as 5.2” is that channel’s rate.

What should I run today?

Need a call now: glm-5.2. Already on Coding Plan / OpenCode and fine with staging: use those channels. Do not look for glm-5.3 on QCode.

Call the 5.2 that is actually on the shelf

glm-5.2 is listed. glm-5.3 is not. A comparison page is not stock.
