Claude Code Weekly Limit, October 2026: Current Rules, Reset Times and Your Options
As of 2026-10-08, we found no new official change to the weekly limit in October in Anthropic's Help Center or release notes: Pro and Max session limits reset every five hours, and a separate weekly limit that applies across all models resets at a fixed time each week assigned to your account. Once you hit it, the official options are to wait for the reset, upgrade your plan or buy usage credits (billed at standard API rates).
Updated 2026-10-08
Four key points
Session limit reset
Help Center wording: Your session-based usage limit will reset every five hours. This applies to both Pro and Max.
Weekly limit reset
The weekly limit resets at a fixed time each week assigned to your account, regardless of when you start using Claude or when your subscription began. Your next reset time is in Settings > Usage.
Standard weekly limit since 2026-09-14
The temporary +50% promotion from 2026-05-13 to 2026-09-13 is over. Since 2026-09-14, Claude Code weekly limits are 25% higher than before the promotion (Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise).
New official changes in October
As of 2026-10-08, the latest Help Center release note is the 2026-09-28 Claude Sonnet 5.5 launch, and none of the October posts on anthropic.com/news concern usage limits.
Where the weekly limit stands in October 2026
As of 2026-10-08, we found no new official change: the weekly limit still follows the rules in place since 2026-09-14. The Help Center says Pro and Max both have a weekly usage limit that applies across all models, resets at a fixed time each week assigned to your account and gives you the full weekly allowance each cycle, while the session limit resets every five hours. Usage on claude.ai, Claude Code and Claude Desktop counts towards the same limit, so heavy chat use leaves less for Claude Code. Anthropic does not publish the actual size of the weekly or five-hour limits, and neither does this page.
What we checked in October
On 2026-10-08 we re-fetched the Help Center articles on Pro, Max, usage limits, Claude Code with a subscription, usage credits and limit resets, plus the release notes and anthropic.com/news. The latest release note is still 2026-09-28 (Claude Sonnet 5.5 launch). The three October posts on the news page (10-01 Barclays, 10-02 engineer training investment, 10-06 Cyber Verification Program expansion) do not touch the weekly limit. The Help Center now calls paid overage usage credits, and the matching Claude Code command is /usage-credits. A separate article, What is a limit reset, says limit resets are given occasionally to eligible plans and set your session or weekly limit back to full, while the weekly limit still resets on its usual day and time.
Timeline
The temporary +50% Claude Code weekly limit promotion starts; the Help Center notes that 5-hour limits were not affected.
The promotion ended on 2026-09-13. From 2026-09-14, Claude Code weekly limits are 25% higher than before the promotion for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans.
Check date for this page: no new October change to the weekly limit found in the Help Center release notes or on anthropic.com/news.
Confirmed vs not published
Confirmed (verbatim)
Session limits reset every five hours. Pro and Max both have a weekly limit across all models that resets at a fixed time assigned to your account, unaffected by when you started using Claude or subscribed. When you hit a limit you can wait for the reset, upgrade or buy usage credits, and usage credits are billed at standard API rates. The Claude Code docs show the message as You've hit your weekly limit · resets Mon 12:00am.
Not published by Anthropic
The actual size of the weekly and five-hour limits (in tokens or messages) is not published; the Help Center only says Max 5x and Max 20x give five and 20 times the Pro per-session allowance. When limit resets launched and which accounts get them is not dated either: the article only says they are given occasionally to eligible plans. This page does not use any of the conversion figures circulating online.
Which option after you hit the limit
Wait for the reset or upgrade
No extra spend: the session limit comes back after five hours and the weekly limit at your account's fixed reset time, both shown in the message and in Settings > Usage. Pro can move to Max 5x, and Max 5x to Max 20x. Switching models with /model does not help, because session and weekly limits are shared across all models.
Usage credits or pay-as-you-go API
If you cannot pause: with usage credits enabled, usage beyond the plan is billed at standard API rates, or you can switch to a Claude Console account and buy API credits. The Help Center says API key users pay per token and there is no usage cap.
How to check what is left and when it resets
① Run /usage in Claude Code: subscribers see plan usage bars, activity stats and a usage breakdown on one screen; the Help Center article on Claude Code also mentions the /status command for your remaining allocation. ② In Settings > Usage on the web, check the next reset time; the Plan usage limits section shows progress for both the current session and the weekly limit. ③ Watch for early warnings such as You've used 85% of your session limit · resets 3:45pm. ④ After hitting a limit, read the reset time in the message; session and weekly limits are shared across all models, so switching models will not restore access. ⑤ If ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is set on your system, Claude Code authenticates with that key and bills API usage instead of using your subscription.
On QCode: billed per token, outside the subscription weekly limit
QCode's API is billed per token and is not bound by the Anthropic subscription weekly limit; the QCode docs describe the two as separate systems, so QCode usage does not touch your official subscription allowance. In Claude Code, set ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL to https://api.qcode.cc/api, paste your QCode key and use a model such as claude-sonnet-5-5 or claude-opus-5-5. To be clear about the limits: QCode plans have a daily cap; the Daily Cost Limit resets at midnight Beijing Time, the API pauses when it is reached and resumes the next day, and the Opus Weekly Limit in the dashboard is a separate weekly allowance for the Opus tier that resets every Monday (Beijing Time). Per-model rates are listed on /models.
Frequently asked questions
Did the Claude Code weekly limit change in October 2026?
As of 2026-10-08 we found no new official change. The latest Help Center release note is dated 2026-09-28 and the October posts on anthropic.com/news do not cover usage limits; the current rule is still the standard weekly limit, 25% above pre-promotion levels, in place since 2026-09-14.
When does the weekly limit reset?
At a fixed time each week assigned to your account. The Help Center says your reset day and time stay the same regardless of when you start using Claude or when your subscription began, and you get the full weekly allowance each cycle. The next reset time is in Settings > Usage, and Claude Code shows it in the message, for example resets Mon 12:00am.
How do the five-hour session limit and the weekly limit interact?
They count at the same time. The Claude Code docs say usage counts against the session and weekly allowances at once, and a single burst of heavy activity can exhaust the weekly allowance before the session window resets. The session limit resets every five hours, the weekly limit once a week.
What are the official options once the weekly limit is reached?
Wait for the reset, upgrade your plan or buy usage credits. With usage credits enabled, extra usage is billed at standard API rates; you can also switch to a Claude Console account and buy API credits. If your account has a limit reset, you can use it in Settings > Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop, but the button is not currently available in Claude Code in the terminal or IDE.
How large are the Pro and Max weekly limits?
Anthropic does not publish the numbers. The Help Center only says Max 5x and Max 20x include five and 20 times the Pro per-session allowance, and that Pro and Max both have a weekly limit across all models. This page states no figure that lacks an official source.
Does Claude Code with an API key hit the weekly limit?
Not the subscription weekly limit. The Help Center says API key users pay per token and there is no usage cap. Calls through QCode are also billed per token and sit outside the subscription weekly limit, though QCode plans have their own daily cap that resets at midnight Beijing Time, and the Opus Weekly Limit in the dashboard resets every Monday (Beijing Time).
