Auto-continue when limits reset
Resume after the window refills — it does not cancel the limit

On 2026-08-13 ClaudeDevs announced a Claude Code Desktop option: Auto-continue when limits reset. After the subscription 5-hour window or weekly limit refills, a stopped session can resume without you watching the clock. It does not raise the cap and it is not an auth bypass. Week 33 digest recorded it. API prepaid billing is a different ledger.

Four facts you can quote

Auto-continue when limits reset

The Desktop label, verbatim

That string matches the ClaudeDevs post on 2026-08-13. It is a Desktop setting / session option, not a new HTTP error code.

After the limit resets

5-hour window or weekly clock

The toggle resumes a stopped session when the official window has quota again. The quota itself still follows the plan. Reading it as “unlimited” is wrong.

2026-08-13

Announce day

ClaudeDevs that day and the Week 33 digest are the primaries. Existing 5-hour / weekly pages on this site never documented this checkbox.

Desktop

Check the surface first

The announce named Desktop. Whether CLI / VS Code expose the same label depends on your build. Do not copy a Desktop screenshot onto every entrypoint.

The toggle changes waiting, not the ledger

Subscription Claude Code stops when you hit a session or weekly limit. You used to watch /status, wait, and continue by hand. Auto-continue when limits reset lets Desktop resume after the official refill. The numbers, rolling clock, and weekly pool do not grow because you enabled it. It is not a fix for Credit balance is too low or enforced_spend_limit_reached.

Why this is not another 5-hour explainer

The 5-hour and weekly pages explain how the clocks move. After 2026-08-13 there is a product toggle: same clocks, Desktop can resume for you at reset. People searching Auto-continue when limits reset want “where is the box / is this cheating,” not the window formula again. Answer: official option, not a bypass.

Timeline

Existing plan rules

Claude Code subscription usage shares the 5-hour window and weekly limit with claude.ai. Hitting them stops the session until the window or extra usage credits (API rates).

2026-08-13

ClaudeDevs: Desktop adds Auto-continue when limits reset. Week 33 digest. As of 2026-08-30 this page still describes it as a Desktop option.

Reset time (your window)

The toggle only continues after official quota is back. The timestamp comes from /status and the product page, not from this checkbox.

Confirmed vs mix-up

Confirmed

Name, Desktop, 2026-08-13, resume-after-reset: ClaudeDevs public post and digest. No claim that quotas increase. API-billed Claude Code does not use this subscription window, so the toggle does not apply there.

Common mix-ups

“Turn it on and weekly limit is gone” — the cap remains; only resume-after-reset. “This is a crack / shared account” — it is an official Desktop option. “CLI definitely has the same switch” — the announce was Desktop.

Wait for reset vs change billing

Stay on the plan: official toggle + wait

Find Auto-continue when limits reset in Desktop. The session still stops at the cap and resumes at reset. Fine if you can live with the window and hate watching the timer.

The job cannot wait: prepaid API

Plan windows and API credits are two ledgers. For a 24×7 agent, bill prepaid API at official price × service fee on models that are sold. Do not fake reset times. This page does not describe bypassing subscription auth.

How to use it (official option)

Update Claude Code Desktop and enable Auto-continue when limits reset in settings or the session options. Use /status to see whether you are on the 5-hour or weekly clock. Do not mix this with empty Console credits or the monthly spend cap. If you need uninterrupted runs, change billing, not the client clock.

QCode does not implement this checkbox

Auto-continue when limits reset is a Claude Code Desktop product toggle. QCode is an API. If the plan window stopped you and you cannot wait, use an already-provisioned key at official price × service fee on models that are sold. That does not add quota to your Anthropic subscription.

FAQ

Does enabling it raise the cap?

No. It only continues after the official reset. The formula is still the plan’s 5-hour window and weekly limit.

Does CLI have the same toggle?

The 2026-08-13 announce named Desktop. Whether CLI uses the same label depends on your build. Do not copy Desktop copy onto every surface.

What if I also see Credit balance is too low?

That is Console prepaid credits, not the plan window. This toggle cannot refill credits = 0. Use Billing or switch auth.

Will it keep going before the limit resets?

The public name is when limits reset. Reading it as a bypass contradicts the label. This page does not provide unofficial “never hit the window” recipes.

Anything else in Week 33 digest?

The digest is a changelog index. Details follow the client. Do not invent hidden flags from second-hand recaps.

Can QCode check this box for me?

No. It is a local Desktop setting. QCode can offer a separate API billing path so you keep calling sold models outside the plan window.

The plan window is still there; change billing only if you cannot wait

The official toggle resumes after reset. For uninterrupted API, official price × service fee on models that are sold.
